Training and Informal Match at Ulceby on Sunday March 19th 2023

The lovely sunshine suggested spring is here and we very much appreciated Mr & Mrs Burridge, the Dexford Shoot and Mr Phil Odling allowing us to use the ground

Our Trainers for the day were Dave Haycock, Charlie Albone, Sue Hales-Lowe and Vicki Strawson.  After a good morning’s training we had lunch and enjoyed three tests for each group in the afternoon’s informal match.

Test 1

Puppy – a dummy was thrown to the right on a track of short grass. The puppy was sent and, when it returned, a dummy was thrown to the left for the puppy to retrieve.

Novice 1 had a double mark with shot.  The dog had to pick the last dummy down first

Novice 2 also had a double mark, with shot, at a greater distance than for novice 1.  This time, the first dummy down was picked first.

Open  dogs did the same test as novice 2, but the distances were greater.

Test 2

This was a marked retrieve with the dummy replaced as the dog returned to the handler.  The distances were increased for each more experienced class.

Test 3

Puppy had a walk up with a mark and one in the same place

Novice 1 had a 2 dog walk up with each dog having 2 marks.

The Novice 2 test was a 2-dog walk up. A mark was thrown, but the first dog was sent for a blind on top of the bank.  The second dog collected the mark. Dogs then swapped places and the test was repeated.

Open dogs repeated the Novice 2 test over a greater distance.
