Coronavirus (COVID-19) Risk Assessment for organised activities involved with Gundog tests

Preventative Measures – Code of Practice to be observed by all those in attendance.

 1. A Covid Safety Officer will be appointed, whose responsibility is to make sure that Covid prevention procedures are maintained throughout the day. A log will be kept of any untoward incidents recorded in the Safety Incident Book. The Covid Safety Officer will be named on the Test documentation.

2. Government guidelines on social distancing, in force at the time, must be adhered to by all participants, whilst at the test.

3. If a competitor, or anyone in their household, has Covid-19 related symptoms, has tested positive for Covid- 19 or is self isolating then they must not attend the event and should self isolate in line with Government advice. This applies for a period of 28 days prior and including the date of the test.

4. Written information on all participants and attendees will be collated prior to the event, this will be detailed enough to allow NHS Test and Trace to contact all participants if any attendee becomes ill with COVID-19. These records will be kept for 21 days.

5. Competitors must not attend a Test if they reside in an area covered by a local down enforced by the Government.

6. Competitors are to provide their own face masks, coverings, gloves and sanitation equipment (gel and/or wipes). These must be used appropriately to maintain safe distancing and good hygiene practices. Competitors must provide their own sealed bag/container to dispose of any used hygiene materials and these must be taken home and disposed of appropriately.

7. There will be no physical contact with any competitor prior or post test. Social distancing must be maintained at all times in all areas of the test.

8. Face masks should be worn during any conferring between the judges.

9. When handling dummies passed from a competitor, a face mask should be worn by the judge, judge’s steward and dummy carrier and should be undertaken at a maximum distance possible. Hands must be sanitised between passing each dummy. Gloves could be worn but would need to be changed and safely discarded following each individual run to ensure no cross contamination

10. Radios will be handled when wearing gloves and thoroughly cleaned using antibacterial wipes before and after use. Earpieces must not be worn unless these are the individuals own.

11. Spectators are not allowed and only the handler of each dog will be permitted on to the test ground. If a competitor has more than one dog running, an appointed individual, ideally from their own household must be willing to hold their additional dog. Other competitors should not be used for this purpose. Anyone else that travels to the test with a competitor must make themselves known to the test organisers before the test commences. They will be asked to remain in their own vehicle and will not be permitted to spectate but details will be collected for Track and Trace purposes.

 12. Where possible, travel around the test will be on foot, as this allows social distancing to be maintained and reduces the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Where travel by foot is not possible, individuals or household groups must travel in separate vehicles.

13. Any individual not following Government Guidelines, or who is deemed to be putting the safety of others at risk will be asked to leave the test ground.

14. There will be no handling of entry forms, cheques, or cash on the day.

15. Competitor armbands will not be provided. Competitors will be required to provide their own number, which does not need to be an armband but must be clearly visible

16. All communication, including the entry list, will be undertaken electronically.

17. Judges books and current regulations will be provided by the judge concerned and only handled by them. All stationery required by the judge to be provided by themselves

18. No food will be provided to any attendees, including judges and officials.

19. Certificates / prize cards / rosettes will be bagged and quarantined prior to the event. All precautions will be observed related to covid hygiene when presented. Certificates may be sent electronically.

NB. All references to face masks also include face coverings as detailed in government guidance and must be provided by the individual concerned.

If this code of Practice is observed, the risk to human health and safety posed by possible hazards that may be encountered during authorized activities are deemed to be low.

Signed on behalf of The Lincs URC.

There seems to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon, so WE HAVE A NEW PLAN FOR 2021.

Programme revised March 14th  2021

The safety of everyone attending an event is paramount, therefore:

If a competitor, or anyone in their household, has Covid-19-related symptoms or has tested positive for Covid-19, they must not attend any event organised by Lincs Area URC and should self isolate in line with government advice.

We will prepare an individual Covid-19 risk assessment, in addition to the normal risk assessment, for each event.

If there are any particular measures or conditions that competitors need to be aware of prior to the event, they will be notified before the event.  Competitors must make sure that anyone travelling with them (when this is allowed) is aware of these arrangements.

Events before June 21st  (at least) will be subject to the ‘rule of 30’.

This means that there will, unfortunately, be a limit on the number of competitors and no spectators will be allowed (in order to maximise the number of members able to run their dogs).  Further information about this will be sent out after our committee meeting on March 30th, but Lincs Area members will be given preference if a test is oversubscribed and there will be a draw if necessary.

(As the novice dog/novice handler test is in the morning and the intermediate test is in the afternoon, each test can be treated separately for number of competitors.)

For Training Days, you will need to book with Sue at least 7 days before and let her know asap if you find you are unable to attend.

P.S. Remember that June 21st is the earliest date for the removal of restrictions, so we may yet have to amend our plans.  We will notify you by email (if you have opted in) of any alterations and the information will be posted on our website.
