We thank Mr and Mrs A Lyle for kindly allowing us to hold our tests at Grange Farm and also our sponsors: Skinners Working Dog Food and Samantha Whyte of Gundog TV.
Thanks are also due to our judges Jim Christon and Samantha Whyte, our chief steward Sue Hales-Lowe and our helpers.
There were four tests for all dogs. Puppies, Veterans and Junior Handlers did similar tests and those for puppies and special puppies were slightly adapted.
Test 1
Special pups had a mark along a track beside a pond. When this had been picked the handler and dog turned for a mark along another track.
The Puppies had a double mark along two tracks, picking the last dummy down first. The veterans and Junior Handlers had the same marks but the dogs retrieved the first dummy down first.
Test 2 was a mark along a wide track with another put in same place as the dog returned. The distances were varied for each class.
Test 3
Special puppies walked a short distance with the judge, then a dummy was thrown. The dogs were walked back to the start and then were sent for the retrieve. The puppy’s test was the same, but over a longer distance.
The veteran dogs had a mark, with shot, over a dyke and through trees. After this had been retieved, handler and dog walked to another peg and the dog was sent for a blind down a track. The Junior Handler version had a shorter initial retrieve.
Test 4
One dog at a time sat with the judge. There was a drive of a few dummies. All but two were picked up and the dogs retrieved these two. The distances were varied for each class.
