It was one of those days when some of the time the sun shone and some of the time it rained, but 20 dogs and handlers enjoyed the day, especially the water training.
Charlie Albone trained the Open dogs, Dave Haycock Novice 2, Gilly Bell and Vicki Strawson Novice 1 and Sue Hales-Lowe the Puppies.
After the morning training, we stopped for lunch and then there were three tests in the afternoon for each group.
Test 1
The Pups were asked to pick a mark on the water. A mark was then thrown alongside the water for the Pupto pick.
Novice 1 dogs had the same retrieves, but further away.
Novice 2 had a mark thrown in water but were asked to pick a blind alongside the water before retrieving the mark.
Open dogs had the same exercise as Novice 2 but over a greater distance.
Test 2
Pups had 2 single marked retrieves along a track. Novice 1, Novice 2 and Open dogs had a mark and then a dummy in the same place. The distances varied for each class
Test 3
Puppy test was a straight mark down a track, then a dummy which was visible in the same place.
Novice 1’s test was the same but over a greater distance.
Novice 2 had a double mark, both landing in the same field, with the first dummy down picked first
Open dogs had a double mark with the first dummy landing over a ditch and the second dummy landing in a field. The dogs had to pick the first dummy down first.
