Driving to Tumby in pouring rain, it didn’t look good. But, by the time we arrived the sun was shining and it stayed fine until we drove home in pouring rain.
We thank the Laird Family for allowing us to use the huge field of sugar beet for training ready for our Cold Game Tests in August and September. We also thank the RAF for a splendid flypast of BBMF planes.
Our trainers for the day were Casper Jonsen (Open), Vicki Strawson (Novice 2) and Gilly Bell (Novice 1) and Casper and David Falshaw judged in the afternoon informal match.
Thanks, also, to Kevin Eveleigh, Paul Williams, Sarah Skelton and Christine Goodman who threw pigeons and put out blinds for the handlers’ dogs to retrieve.
Training in the morning was in the sugar beet and the afternoon took the form of the first two rounds of a cold game test with four dog walk ups. Round 1 was a mark and a blind and the round 2 retrieve was a mark along the line. Open dogs could be faced with the mark or the blind as the first retrieve in round 1, but novice 2 and 1 dogs were all given the mark first. The more experienced the dogs, the longer the retrieves in all cases.
