We had a great day and the weather was good to us. We thank Mr Richard Ward for kindly allowing us to test our dogs in the sugar beet at Welby and Mr Martin Eveleigh for sponsoring the event and being Chief Steward. Thanks, also, to our judges Caroline Hewison, Sue Lowe and Andy Slingsby.
Twenty three dogs took part in the 6 dog walk ups. The first round was two marks in front for each dog and a cross over retrieve in the second round. Those not going through to the afternoon appreciated the opportunity for training retrieves in the beet on the way back to lunch.
Six dogs went through to another walk up for a mark in front and a blind behind, the blind picked first. Five dogs then remained to move onto a stubble field where they had a drive. This was followed by two dogs at a time working together for a mark thrown over a hedge towards the dogs which was picked after a blind in long grass. The blinds were far from easy as there were 3 stations in the long grass with birds at each and the dog had to retrieve from a specific one!
