URC Novice Field Trial at Raithby on Saturday 18 October 2014

The Field Trial was held at Raithby by kind permission of Mr Rob Hall Jones, Mr Martin Reeve and the Mavis Enderby Shooting Syndicate. We also thank BASC for generously sponsoring the event.

This was an excellent ground for a field trial and the drives were close enough together for the judges, Mrs Sarah Coomber-Smith, Mr Arthur Hewer, Mrs Sue Lowe and Mr Andy Slingsby and the 14 competitors to easily walk between them. Mr Graham Stanley was Chief Steward and Mr Roly Brocksom Steward of the Beat.

The day began with a duck drive with enough ducks to complete the first round falling in and around the reservoir.  Following this, partridges were flushed from a small copse and sweet corn plantation and the final drive for the trial provided mainly pheasants for the dogs to retrieve from ploughed fields.  The guns did an excellent job all day, making it easy for the judges to test the dogs and handlers
