Thorganby Hall is a beautiful venue offering an amazing variety of scenarios for tests. We thank Mr and Mrs J Milligan-Manby for allowing us to run our dogs over this superb ground. We also thank Gundog Gear for sponsoring the event.
Martin Eveleigh was our Chief Steward and our judges were Andy Slingsby, Sue Lowe and Sinead MacMillan.
There were three tests in the morning for all twenty eight runners:
Test 1 was quite a short mark into the far edge of a round pond surrounded by trees, followed by a blind into the wooded area to the right.
Test 2 again involved water. The peg was on the outside of a horseshoe lake. A shot heralded a mark thrown on the far side of the water. This was picked first, followed by a blind along the bank.
For Test 3, a mark, with a shot, was thrown up onto the top of the bank from the edge of the wooded area along the top of a pretty valley. A second mark, that had to be picked first, was thrown in the valley floor to the left.
Our judges took twelve dogs through to the afternoon’s longer and more testing retrieves:
Test 4 was a single blind, without a shot, in the wood.
Test 5 was a two dog walk up. Each time the first dog had to cross a stream and then collect a mark thrown into the lake. Then the second dog had a long run up the grassy hill and through a wood to pick a blind placed at the top of the hill.
Test 6 was a picking up exercise involving the dogs going over a field and crossing a stream to pick two of four blinds in the wood.
Thanks to our judges, chief steward and all the willing helpers for such a brilliant day.
