Windsor Novice 12th September

Award winners and judges

The United Retriever Club held its first trial of the season, a 14 dog Novice Stake, on Tuesday 12th September 2023 at Windsor Great Park; by gracious permission of His Majesty The King and The Crown Commissioners.

The judges were Mr John Stubbs, Mr Graham Stanley, Mr Alan Buckland and Miss Paula Graystone. Many thanks to them, and also for their fine shooting throughout the day, grateful thanks go to Mr Bob Marcham and his team of Guns.

Special thanks to Chief Steward Mrs Barbara Kuen (our URC Bucks Area Field Trial Representative), who worked so hard in the weeks beforehand, ensuring that we all enjoyed a very successful day. Members of the URC Bucks Area Committee who kindly gave up their time to attend and help on the day were Sue Berman, John Read, Helen Burnie, Kirsty Harris, Vicky Barton and Izzy Riley.

Conditions were challenging for dogs and handlers throughout; it was a very warm dry day, with only intermittent light breeze and low scent conditions. The first two rounds were walked up through beautiful parkland with stunning views, including occasional glimpses of the Castle. Retrieves of partridge were picked from rough cover of white grass. Six dogs progressed through to the third round, which followed a duck drive; and at the announcement of trial over, just three dogs remained. The results were as follows:

1st. The Palgrave Trophy was awarded to the winner, Hullabaloo Thunder of Thorchase, owned and handled by Vince Thorby. Also awarded to Vince: The Braeduke Cup for Best Yellow and The Sulby Cup for Guns’ Choice.

2nd. Lochandaimh Pippin of Greyhill, owned by Gillian Wright and handled by Julian Morgan.

3rd. Jocksburn Macey at Delfryd, owned and handled by Alan Rees.

Many congratulations to the worthy award winners from everyone at URC.
