Charity Informal Working Test at Raithby on Sunday 20 May 2018

'Brilliant day', 'Everyone was so friendly', 'Super tests', 'It was lovely sitting in the sunshine enjoying the tasty pork roast' were just a few of the comments overheard.

Mr Robert Hall-Jones, Martin Reeve and the Mavis Enderby Shoot kindly allowed us to hold our annual Charity Informal Working Tests at Raithby once again.  Crawfords Shooting Supplies of Scunthorpe and Thomas Bell Country Store of Brigg sponsored the event

This year we were raising money for the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association.  This is a little known but devastating condition of the brain, in some ways similar to motor neurone disease.

Sue Lowe was the Chief Steward for the day and the judges, Julie Campbell, Gilly Bell, Martin Eveleigh and Godfrey Lowe, enjoyed watching the 44 dogs run over four tests on this beautiful early summer day.

The retrieves for Open dogs were over a greater distance than those for the Novice dogs:

Test 1 was a two dog walk up with marks thrown to the left and right.  After each dog had picked a dummy, they changed sides and the test was repeated.

Test 2 was a mark in the water and a blind on the track beside the lake.  Open dogs picked the blind first and Novice dogs the mark.

Test 3 was a double mark, one in the water and the other on the bank.

Test 4 was a picking up exercise.  Three blinds were placed in a line across in rough grass and two had to be picked.

A run off was needed in both Open and Novice sections.  This was a distraction mark thrown from a track onto plough and the dogs picked a blind further to the right but also on the plough.

The dogs were happy after their two cooling swims and it was left to the owners to bask in the lovely sunshine and enjoy a super pork roast plus scrummy puds.  The day was rounded off with a little auction, huge raffle and ‘Heads and Tails’.  Our thanks to everyone who helped and supported the day which resulted in the splendid amount of £1252.87 raised for the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association.
