Sportsman Progress Shield Award and Training Certificates of Merit
What a wonderful end to this year's training on the hottest day of the year so far. Thankfully the evening cooled, aided by a nice breeze, albeit a shorter and more moderate session to assist. At our presentation, having enjoyed fruit salad and cream with delicious brownies I was able to thank everyone who had made this year's events happen: our landowners, trainers and helpers alike - all of whom are simply amazing individuals! I also thanked all handlers across the 8 sessions. You've really progressed skills and supported our URC Area financially, enabling us to be an active part of the National Club.
To all members, don't underestimate the value gained by your dogs. Just imagine at 7 or 8 weeks of age realising you're being taken home by a working retriever family: what a life! Together you go a long way to promote professional standards in countryside activities. Whilst we may fall short on occasions, aiming to set this high example is so important for our sport. Well done all!
Our winner of the Sportsman Progress Shield 2024 was the well deserved Harriet Ramsey.
This year we also wanted to widen the acknowledgement of achievements knowing you had all worked hard. Only one person can get the shield, and whilst I'd love to award all of you, our trainers highlighted those that stood out.
Certificates of Merit for Training were awarded to: Beginners/Puppy Group - John Dean, Pete Leyden and Emma Mills.
Novice Group - Grant Smith and Chris Lee.
Open group - Mel Selby and Susie Stewart.
Well done folks!
It was with great surprise that Ken Green presented another certificate (hidden from my knowledge) and to my surprise had my name on! My boy has definitely thrown many a challenge up this year and it was most kind to be recognised for overcoming much of it.
Thank you one and all. Fen D'Lucie Training Co-ordinator URC (Hants & SW)
