With a large entry we had to do a late change of venue and are very grateful to Kevin Doughty for allowing us to use his training ground at Hintlesham.  We also had to have a change of two judges and then lost another at the eleventh hour!  Unfortunately due to the current situation with the Covid virus, Peter Hurst had been in contact with someone who subsequently tested positive, so regrettably was unable to judge, very kindly Frederick Rice from our committee stepped in at the last minute.

Keith was our test Steward along with Val, and set four varied exercises.  The forecast was thundery showers and it was very humid, but despite plenty of rumbling of thunder later in the day we stayed dry!

Test one was with Peter Childs which consisted of a short walk up testing the dogs heelwork and steadiness with two marked retrieves thrown out in front one left and one right, with the dogs taking the one on the opposite side then a further walk forward two more retrieves and the one in front was collected.

The second test was on the water with Glynis Hillier, this was just a single marked retrieve into water.  This required a swim across the water then crossing overland and into the second area of water where the dummy had been thrown and returning the dummy to handler who was standing away from the water’s edge.

Doug Laflin was judging test three in the willows, which consisted of two shots with a good mark landing slightly in the rough to the left, which once picked and the dog was returning a blind was placed a bit deeper on the right.

The fourth test was in the woods consisting of two blind retrieves in the wood, which was a good hunting exercise in an area, and hopefully the dogs didn’t stray too far into the woods.

All the exercises were adjusted slightly for the Special Puppy class.

The day ended with two run-offs, in the Novice class a run off for third place and in the Veteran’s for fourth place. Our usual tea and cake was available while the scores were being checked and Kevin Doughty presented all the awards.

Judging by the lovely comments and feedback received a good day was had by all.
