SP Novice Veteran WT Chigborough 6th April
Sunday 6th April saw our first Working Test of the year, Special Puppy, Novice and Veteran
We were kindly invited back to Chigborough by Sam & Paul Tallowin and made very welcome.
Our four judges were Glynis Hillier, Rodger Ketley, Paul Wheeler and Jackie Smith, thank you all for judging for the club and giving up your Sunday. Our sponsors Skinner’s dog foods supplied vouchers for the winners in each class.
Mike was the steward and he set four good tests, spread amongst the fishery lakes, so a little bit of a walk between two of the tests, but as we had a glorious sunny day, that didn’t really matter. The tests comprised of a double mark with a short walk up testing steadiness and heelwork, a mark with a blind opposite to the fall of the mark, there was a hunting exercise with two out of three dummies required from the specified area and then a double mark memory, with the memory being in the water adding temptation to collect the retrieves in the wrong order.
Test one was a double mark with a short walk up and the first mark was over to the far right, dropping to an area of cover then a further short walk up with a mark directly in front again dropping into an area of cover. This test was judged by Glynis Hillier, the majority of dogs succeeded.
Test two was judged by Jackie Smith and was a straight mark in front to the left, although the draw of the water was a big temptation for a few dogs, after the mark the dogs then returned for a blind which was further over to the right.
Test three judged by Paul was a hunting exercise with three dummies already placed and the dogs had to retrieve two of them, this proved to be a bit tricky for some of the dogs and a few fell by the wayside.
The fourth test was a mark memory judged by Rodger, the first mark fell into the water and then a second dummy was thrown out onto the plough to be collected first, again the draw of the water was just too much for some dogs and we lost several dogs who couldn't resist the water!
The day ended with a two dog run off for third place in the Novice, and we had winners in each class.
We couldn’t run the day without our cheerful helpers prepared to give up their day to help, so that others can enjoy the tests, your turn to run next time guys! So many thanks to Frank, Rob, Graham, Frederick, Steve and Paul for throwing and placing, and to Amanda, Jane, Julie and Keith for stewarding and Rob and Barbara for the lunches (delicious as always!) and big thank you to all our wonderful cake makers for a wonderful choice of cakes.
