INTERMEDIATE AWARD WINNERS
On Sunday 19th May 2024 United Retriever Club Border Counties and Cotswolds held their Intermediate and Veteran Working Tests held at The Elms, Rockhampton. By kind permission of Mike and Sandie Goode.
We had a lovely sunny day to run our Intermediate and Veteran Working Tests. Mike and Sandie Goode, who as always gave us a free rein on their land. There were 31 entries, and many handlers chose to run in both tests, which proved somewhat a challenge to the organisers.
Our super judges, Karen Handley and Denise Smith stayed out in the sun all morning and offered plenty of advice where it was needed. Thanks also go to Skinners who kindly sponsored all our tests.
We would also like to extend our thanks to our stewards Sarah and George and our helpers Sandie, Nick and Matt for their hard work on the day.
Test 1
A mark to shot into long grass with a blind at a tight angle just onto the mown area with the blind to be taken first.
Modification for the veterans who only had to retrieve the mark.
Test 2
A 2 dog walked up with a mark to shot into a small area of long grass followed by a long blind placed along a fence line through the fall. There were several dummies out with the opportunity to swop.
Again, a modification for the veterans who only had to take the mark.
Test 3
A blind along a track with no shot. The dogs had to stop, and hunt left while the track tempted them to go on.
Test 4
A long water retrieve with the veterans sent from a closer peg and the intermediates turning and heeling away from the water before being sent. The wind was pushing the dummies away from the marked point resulting in a longer swim, with a few dogs taking the easy option and leaving the water for the return journey.
