Novice & Open Working Tests held at The Badminton Estate by kind permission of the Duke of Beaufort and by permission of Mr P Barrett and Mr S Williams.
There were 30 dogs for the Novice and 19 dogs for the Open. The judges for the day were Barbara Kuen and Mary-Jane Opie, with Jennie Dimmock acting as third judge for the Novice due to the number of dogs entered.
There were 4 tests for both Novice and Open classes, as follows:-
- A mark and a blind out at an angle to the mark. For the novice dogs the angle was greater than for the Open. This test proved very challenging to both Novice and Open dogs, with the dogs going back to where the original mark was. Both wind and directional handling played a big part in this test.
- A double mark up a track for the Novice, and a mark and a blind up a track for the Open.
- A diagonal mark over water for the Novice, and a distraction into water with a blind over a separate pond for the Open.
- A walk-up.
Our thanks to all our helpers for the day - Ian & Alison Wilson, Jennie & Dick Dimmock, Mary Valentine, Adrian Phillips, Craig Gardner, and Jason Holder. Also to Skinners for their continued sponsorship of our events.
