AREA FINALS BC&C Team Report from Linda Newnes
Well, we had a fantastic time at the Area Finals. The Isenhurst estate lent to some challenging and fun retrieves. The atmosphere on the day was one of enjoyment – we had a great team; we worked as a team and supported each other – even when it went pear-shaped the team just smiled and carried on – teamwork is dream work!
In summary, all dummies were picked, no zeros from anyone and it was great fun! The following trophies were awarded for BC&C members:
The Bernard Hall Memorial Trophy, for the 2nd place team.
The Shooting Times Trophy was awarded to Lauren Wright (89/100) to the individual runner-up. The highest place individual had a score of 91/100.
The H W Froud Trophy for the highest place newcomer was awarded to Lauren Wright.
Our preparation
We were all new to this event and some of us had never even ran in a team. We had no idea re our strengths and weaknesses, so as a team we all entered the Bristol and West Open Test the week before the finals. This was a great plan, it helped us decide which dog to send when we had a choice.
The other prep work we did was to take the pressure of each other. We had our WhatsApp group, Karen jollied us a long with her continued support and organisation/advice. One comment that really stood out to me was from Mark, “A team test is just the same only you walk around with your friends”. Do not underestimate the importance of team cohesion and we were all rooting for each other and the club.
