Mendip Branch Fun Day and Picnic - August 2015
On Sunday, 9th August at Myrtle Farm overlooking the beautiful Somerset levels and Glastonbury Tor, we met for our end of Summer Training Tests and Presentations with thanks to our hosts, the Lunnon family.
Dogs of all ages and handlers of all abilities, were given 3 tests involving 6 retrieves. Set by our trainers, they tested marking, memory, direction, distance, delivery and handling.
Border Counties and Cotswold 40th Anniversary lanyards, certificates, rosettes and cups were presented to the most successful handlers in each training group.
The members took the opportunity to thank Paul Smith, Colin Selwood and Ron Dawson for their regular training classes throughout the year, with additional thanks to Margaret and Alan Guest, Jean and Mike White, and Nick Jordan who have all stepped in during the year, and also to Alison Wilson for co-ordinating everyone.
This was a Fun Event and so there was a fiercely contested 'Scurry against the Clock', organised and timed by Jill Selwood; dummies thrown by Mike White. The winner by 0.1 second was Tash Smith with Boyce narrowly beating husband Paul with Pepper!
Tash organised the Dunlop Dummy Challenge (no dog required) for the 'best toss into a tractor tyre'. The winner was Abbie Budd, with a special award going to Linda Newnes for most consistent throwing.
Our best puppy was Ruger handled by Abbie Budd and tested by Paul Smith.
In Novice, our Winner's Cup went to Dee Jamieson, who is a new member this year and did very well with Peach. Andrew Maisey took 2nd and 3rd with Maggie and Honey.
In Ron's group, our Open Cup Winner was Linda Flower with Jemma. 2nd place went to Christine Collins, and 3rd to Mandy Askham with Kiri.
The Best Retrieve Cup was awarded to Linda Flower and Jemma.
The Progress Shield for Most Improved Handler & Dog over the year, in any group, went to Jane Prichard.
A delicious picnic lunch was provided by all the group and was enjoyed by guests, family and friends.
Thank you to everyone for joining us on another lovely Sunday in the sunny Mendips, and congratulations to everyone who took part.
See you on 6th September for the first of our Winter training.
