Gurston Training Day March 2025

Absolutely glorious!!

Mr and Mrs Hitching kindly allowed us back to enjoy training on their land at Gurston, where Spring sunshine warmed the hearts of 25 handlers gathered for our first training day. Wonderful to see you all!  The keeper, Duane Hart and our Vice President Janie Mann both helped behind the scenes. Judy Venables (supporting as always) and Wendy Barnsley (Social media advertising). Thank you all.

Thank you to Ken, Mark and Margaret, our amazing trainers for creating progressive learning opportunities and fantastic challenges.  Thank you Lee, Angie and Gareth for your relentlous patience, firing and throwing skills!

All three groups were able to experience the challenges of the hills and valleys during the day and in addition some had the opportunity of working the cover crop.  Marks, blinds and memories were created for all groups with static and walk-up exercises.  NDNH/Adv Pup group saw some lovely progressive work using the slopes ensuring basics were not compromised. The Novice group added some jumping into enclosed areas to polish tight hunting skills with the Open group stretching distances, gradients and difficulties.  It was very good for my lab Treacle to listen to shots and just watch dogs zoom out for dummies; an antidote after an exciting picking up season. Truely appreciate Margaret and Mark squeezing in retrieve rewards for his tolerance.

Our next training day is at Hawkers Hill on Sunday 27th April.  Spaces still available in NDNH/Adv Pup.  Whilst Novice and Open are full, I am laying on another group which will be a mix for Novice and Open to enjoy (intermediate).  Please send me an email via fen.dlucie@gmail.com if you wish to book your place on that or any of our other days.

Many thanks,

Training Co-ordinator, Fen D'Lucie.
