By very kind permission of The St Vincent de Paul Society we returned to this venue, and were fortunate with a lovely sunny warm day, very spring like.

As always with grateful thanks to our sponsors, Masters Dog Foods,  for suppling a bag of food for the winner in each class.  Thanks too for Sporting Saint for supplying some prizes for those in the awards.

Our two stewards set four very good and varied tests, and the day ran really smoothly. Starting with bacon rolls if you were quick enough, and ending with tea and cakes, and somewhere between we had a working test!

We had four judges, and starting at Test 1 with Julia Smith, there was a mark memory along a bank to the competitors right, but a blind retrieve down the slope almost into the cover was to be picked first. This was a nice exercise with the chance to see how the dogs followed direction, with the majority of dogs succeeding.

Test 2 was judges by Julian Williams, and was a long mark into an area of trees, but with an obstacle of a fence to jump just in front of the tree line, once collected a blind was thrown into the same area. Several of the dogs struggled with this exercise, but is was a good to see what dogs would take command for obstacles over a distance.

The 3rd test was with Roger Wade, which was a straight mark into water, although you lost sight of your dog once it reached the waters edge, but the dummy was easily retrieved from the water. The second retrieve was a blind placed in an area forward and left of the handler, a lot of the dogs were drawn back to the water requiring additional handling rather than going directly to the area.

Test 4 was a short walk up in pairs with a two marked retrieves, the first in front and then the second at an angle crossing in front of the other dog. Heel work was important as well as the actual retrieves. Our judge for this test was John Iacono.

The day ended with the customary tea and cakes, then the presentation of the awards
