Special Puppy, Novice ,Veteran Working Test at Peyton Hall 4th August 2013

Our third test of the year, Special Puppy/Novice & Veteran, was held on Sunday 4th August 2013, at Peyton Hall, Boxford, by very kind permission of Mr & Mrs Hogsbjerg. With over 50 entries the judges, Jenny Hankey, Sam Morley-Riches, Jim Sugden & Gary Vidler (who stepped in at the last moment) did a sterling job, helping where they could and offering invaluable advice. Mr & Mrs Hogsbjerg our hosts were able to join us for a large part of the day and presented the prizes to the award winners.

Once again Masters Dog Food very generously donated bags of feed to the winners of each section and Sporting Saint very kindly donated dummies, leads and lanyards as prizes. The first test, a double mark to be retrieved in any order seemed quite straight forward for most. The second test was another double retrieve this time over a small stream, which tested the dog’s ability to take a line, as when the dog reached the stream they were out of sight of the handler. The third test was a walk-up with a seen and blind retrieve, scenting in this particular area seemed to present a problem for some dogs. The fourth retrieve was a mark onto a lake for the SPs and a mark over onto the other bank for novice and veterans, which most dogs did really well. The top seven Novice dogs were taken forward for one more retrieve, a blind with a mark as a distraction.
