Open Qualifier at Frampton-on-Severn 17th May 2015

The URC BC&C Open working test was held at Frampton-on-Severn by kind invitation of Mr P R H Clifford on Sunday, 17th May 2015.

Due to a last minute venue change, we would like to thank Mr Clifford for allowing us the use of his land at very short notice.

The judges for the day were Mr P Bruton, Mrs A Wales and Mr D England.

The day was organised by John Cornforth and Jill Gardner.

After 5 withdrawals, 23 dogs ran.  The day consisted of 5 separate tests which are described as follows:-

Test 1:
This consisted of two long seen retrieves to shot, with one thrown approx. 100 foot apart into medium grass; the dogs having to retrieve the nearest one first!  Judge was Mrs A Wales.

Test 2:
This test had a blind down a hill in 'dead ground' with a seen distraction also down the hill to the left of the blind; the blind retrieve sent for first.  Judge was Mr P Bruton.

Test 3:
This test was at the top of the hill.  A long blind was placed near a marker to the left and behind of where a mark was thrown into some rough covered ground.  The dogs were sent for the blind first, with the bunker of the seen retrieve which also had a small angle.  Judge was Mr D England.

Test 4:
This was a water retrieve and consisted of a blind just out of the reeds to the back right hand corner of the pond, and mark to shot to the left hand side of the bank.  The blind diagnonal across the water was sent for first.  Judge was Mr P Bruton.

Test 5:
This test was a four dog walked-up under two judges (Mrs A Wales and Mr D England) with a mark in front and blinds off each end of the line.

A run-off to split 3rd and 4th position took place.  The Tokeida Trophy for the winning dog and the Amorosa Cup for the highest placed Labrador was awarded to Mrs H Paterson, and the Amber Shield for the highest placed Golden Retriever was awarded to Mrs M Jarrod.

Thank you to Skinners for their kind sponsorship of this test.

The BC&C Area Team will be chosen from the highest placed entrants who are available to run at the URC Area Finals on the 28th June at the Auberies Estate in Suffolk.

A very special thank you to our dummy throwers and stewards as without their kind help this event could not have taken place - Adrian Phillips, David Godding, Gary Porter, Clive Downs, Mervyn Philpott, Evie Giblin and Pete Allen. The catering for the day was kindly undertaken by Ms B Hartford who looked after us all very well!
