Border Counties and Cotswold Area of the URC held their 2015 Novice Test at The Elms, Rockhampton on 7th June. We were lucky to have a glorious day, warm and sunny.
The judges were Mrs Francesca Prentice, Mr Steve Cullis and Mr Frank Wright.
There were three tests in the morning and then two more tests after an early lunch.
Test one was a double mark, one into the game crop and the other along a hedge. The handler to choose which to retrieve first.
Test two was a water test. Two dogs were sat up and a retrieve was thrown into the water. The right hand dog was required to collect a blind to the right in the reeds and then the left hand dog retrieved the dummy in the water. The dogs changed places and the scenario repeated.
Test three was a picking up exercise. A generous corner of a field with long grass was marked out.
It was required that each dog collect two dummies, out of four, from this area.
Test four was a blind over a jump to a shot.
Test five was a four dog walk up, with a crossing seen retrieve and a blind off the end of the line for each dog.
After tea and cakes, the awards were presented by Mike Goode, the landowner.
The day finished at 3pm.
