The Novice and Open Spring Working Tests were held at Brimpsfield Park on Sunday 14 April 2013, by kind invitation of Mr & Mrs Larthe and permission of the Head Keeper Mr Anthony Coleman.
The NoviceTest in the morning attracted an entry of 42, so to enable a timely completion in time for the Open Test in the afternoon, we appointed 5 judges, Phil Bruton, Paul Truby, Iris Wright, Mary Jarrod and Karen Pinker. We are very grateful to our three lady judges for stepping in at the last minute, when we realised the size of the entry.
Five tests were set, these were a pickup with two blinds to be retrieved from a designated area; a left and right in woodland; a double retrieve at one of the ponds with one mark on land and the other in the water; a four dog walk-up and a blind with a mark. The dogs had ten retrieves altogether, so were thoroughly tested and most dogs completed all the tests, the better dogs with style. The standard of the dogs in the awards was high, with a run off required to decide first place.
